The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate is located in Rome N.Y. The Information Directorate is focused on basic research and advanced development in the cyber domain. Its diverse workforce of more than 800 military and civilian scientists and engineers are charged with leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting information technology capabilities for our air, space and cyberspace force.
The Air Force Research Laboratory's Information Directorate develops systems, concepts and technologies to enhance the Air Force's capability to successfully meet the challenges of the information age. We develop and integrate programs to acquire data. We find better ways to store, process and fuse data to make it into information. Finally, we create means to deliver and present tailored information to allow the military decision-maker to have the total sphere of information needs for successful operations worldwide
The Directorate sustains the finest laboratory and research facilities found anywhere. The majority of Directorate researchers have earned advanced degrees, typically in computer science and engineering.
The Directorate’s areas of investigation are organized by Core Technical Competencies (CTCs). There are four key CTCs: Autonomy, Command and Control, and Decision Support; Processing and Exploitation; Connectivity and Dissemination; and Cyber Science and Technology.
All four of the Directorate’s technical or “Mission” Divisions participate in the Summer Faculty Fellowship Program: the Information Intelligence Systems and Analysis Division, the Computing and Communications Division, the Information Exploitation and Operations Division, and the Information System Division. This research program is also supported by the Information Institute, a collaboration of over 60 large and small academic institutions, and the Information Directorate.
