Research Lab Safety and Security FAQ

Will I have to undergo a security background check?
- Yes, all applicants will undergo a security background check by the Air Force Research Lab to which they have applied. Fellowship award is subject to a successful security review and approved access to unclassified government information.
Can I request to complete my fellowship remotely?
- No, Fellowships must be completed fully onsite at an Air Force Research Lab. If the Research Lab determines fellowships will be conducted remotely due to COVID-19 or other reasons, Systems Plus will work with the Research Labs and Fellows to coordinate participation options.
  
  The Defense Department is working closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services and the State Department to provide support in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. All fellows must adhere to research lab/facility safety and security protocols. Each research lab/facility will provide specific instruction to fellows before they begin their fellowship regarding COVID-19 protocols such as mask or vaccine mandates.
