Period and Place of Appointment

Period and Place of Appointment

  • The term of appointment can be 8 to 12 continuous weeks.
  • Appointments must take place 100% on-site at the designated host research facility.
  • Appointments that are 100% remote must be pre-approved by the mentor and the AFOSR program manager. In accordance with established Equal Employment Opportunity and Non-discrimination law, the Air Force Research Laboratory has a legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodation(s), such as 100% remote work, concerning the known physical or mental limitations of qualified employees, applicants, and visitors with disabilities unless it can be shown that such accommodation(s) would impose an undue hardship.
    • A Reasonable Accommodation is any change or modification in the work environment or in the way things are customarily done, including an exception to a particular office policy and/or procedures, which would enable a qualified individual with a disability to apply for a position, perform the essential functions of a position, and/or enjoy equal employment opportunities.
    • Systems Plus Inc. may request medical information to substantiate that the individual has a disabling medical condition that causes relevant limitations that require accommodation. Medical documentation will be considered sufficient if it meets the following criteria:
      • Describes the nature, severity, and duration of the individual's impairment,
      • The activity or activities that the impairment limits,
      • The extent to which the impairment limits the individual’s ability to perform said activity or activities; and,
      • Substantiates why the requested reasonable accommodation is needed.
      • Medical documentation about the individual’s disability and functional limitations must come from a qualified health care or rehabilitation professional. Depending on the disability and the type of functional limitation it imposes, qualified professionals could be doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, vocational rehabilitation specialists, or licensed mental health professionals.
  • Fellows who received approval to have a graduate student accompany them must supervise their student at all times and neither fellow nor student may take leave from the lab unless expressly authorized by the AFOSR.
  • Graduate students who are carrying out their research with a faculty member may not begin their research before their faculty member; neither may they continue research at the facility once the faculty member has officially left the facility for the summer.
